Kybella New Orleans
Non-Surgical Fat Reduction
People with excess fat beneath the chin hate it and it is notoriously difficult to lose through diet and exercise alone. This is because a submental fullness, or a “double chin” is usually an inherited familial trait. People with chin fat are genetically programmed to store fat there, making them appear heavier than they would like. Submental fullness can also cause the chin to lack definition, detracting from facial harmony.

What is Kybella?
Kybella is an injectable medication that is FDA approved to permanently reduce excess fat below the chin. Its active ingredient, deoxycholic acid, dissolves the walls of the affected fat cells, causing them to die off. The body then gradually removes these cells as waste. After a series of injections over several months, patients experience a noticeable reduction in the thickness of fat beneath the chin as well as better definition to the neck and jawline.
Why consider Kybella injections?
Until recently, the only procedure to permanently remove excess fat beneath the chin was liposuction surgery. Kybella introduces a non-surgical alternative to help get rid of a double chin without the incisions, anesthesia, and recovery involved with surgery. Additional benefits of Kybella include:
- Fast, convenient treatments
- Results that are noticeable after a few weeks and final in 4-6 months
- Permanent fat reduction following completion of treatment
- Suitable for removing a very small or more substantial amount of fat
What does Kybella treatment feel like?
Kybella injections are performed in our office during a regular appointment. You will be given a topical anesthetic for enhanced comfort. Depending on your needs, several injections may be given in various points beneath the chin. The needle used for Kybella injections is very thin, and most patients experience no more than a slight stinging sensation during treatment. Typically, patients require 2 to 4 treatment sessions spaced a month or two apart to achieve their desired results.
Are there any side effects with Kybella?
The most common side effects associated with Kybella are redness, mild swelling and bruising, and soreness at the injection site. These side effects typically subside within 1-2 weeks following treatment.
