Otoplasty (Ear Surgery) New Orleans
Prominent ears can attract unwanted attention that can harm your, or your child’s, self-image. Dr. Moses performs ear surgery, or otoplasty, to set prominent ears back closer to the head or to reduce the size of large ears. Otoplasty can also correct a birth defect in the ear, or a defect caused by injury, surgery, or cancer.
Otoplasty can be performed at any age, as long as the child is “on board” with the idea having surgery. Otoplasty for a child can help him or her avoid a lifetime of embarrassing ridicule and uncomfortable adaptations from large or unusually shaped ears. For adults, otoplasty (ear pinning) can address life-long concerns about their appearance and ear shape.

At your initial consultation, Dr. Moses will show you how otoplasty works. Together, the two of you will discuss the options available.
What is ear surgery like?
Otoplasty is performed under general anesthesia as an outpatient. Dr. Moses will use surgical techniques to reshape your ears. Incisions for otoplasty are behind the ears. Dr. Moses uses internal, non-removable sutures to create and secure your newly shaped cartilage in place, and dissolvable stitches in the skin, so no sutures need to be removed.
How long is ear surgery recovery?
After your ear surgery, you will have minimal discomfort. Bandages stay in place typically for 5 to 7 days.
What kind of ear surgery results can I expect?
Dr. Moses knows the importance of being comfortable with your appearance. Ear surgery can have profound benefits to your overall appearance and confidence.
