Michael H. Moses, MD, FACS

Otoplasty (Ear Surgery)

Prominent ears can attract unwanted attention that can harm your, or your child’s, self-image. Dr. Moses performs ear surgery, or otoplasty, to set prominent ears back closer to the head or to reduce the size of large ears. Otoplasty can also correct a birth defect in the ear, or a defect caused by injury, surgery, or cancer.

Otoplasty (ear pinning) plastic surgery is typically performed on children after the age of 5. Otoplasty for a child can help him or her avoid a lifetime of ridicule from large or unusually shaped ears. For adults in New Orleans, otoplasty (ear pinning) plastic surgery can address life-long concerns about their appearance and ear shape.

Your Individual Goals

During your initial consultation, Dr. Moses will realistically discuss your goals with you. Together, the two of you will discuss the options available.

About Otoplasty Plastic Surgery

Otoplasty is performed under general anesthesia as an outpatient. Dr. Moses will use surgical techniques to reshape your ears. Incisions for otoplasty are on the back behind the ears. Dr. Moses uses internal, non-removable sutures to create and secure your newly shaped cartilage in place, and dissolvable stitches in the skin, as no sutures need to be removed.

Recovery from Ear Cosmetic Surgery in New Orleans

After your ear surgery, you may feel some discomfort. This is normal. It may be itchy under your bandages, but it is important that those bandages stay in place typically for 5 to 7 days.
