Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation has become the most frequently performed plastic surgery procedure on women. The female breast symbolizes the difference between the male and female figure, and in our society, breasts and their appearance are more important than ever.

Your Individual Goals

Dr. Moses will talk to you, examine you, and discuss with you your options for breast surgery. Some women have breasts that are excessively droopy and need lifts; some women have breasts that are too small and need breast implants; and some women need both. If you need both, it can be done as a single stage procedure through the same anesthetic. Dr. Moses will explain to you the options available to you, as well as the pros and cons of each option. He will work with you to figure out an individualized plan that works for you.

Dr. Moses does breast augmentations with silicone gel implants and with saline implants. He will explain to you the relative advantages and disadvantages of each, allowing you to make the right decision for yourself.

Dr. Moses places breast implants behind the pectoralis muscle. He will give you an option of the periareolar incision (at the top edge of the areola), the inframammary incision (in the fold beneath the breast), or the endoscopic transaxillary approach (through a small incision in the armpit). The implants can also be placed through the breast lift incisions if a lift is necessary.

Introducing New “Gummy Bear” Breast Implant Options

Dr. Moses is happy to offer his breast augmentation patients more implant options to get the breast shape and size they want, including the newer FDA-approved silicone implants by Sientra and Allergan, popularly known as “gummy bear” implants.

Sientra’s high-strength silicone gel shaped implants come in three different contours, allowing women to better customize their breast enlargement to fit their unique body shape.

The Allergan Natrelle smooth Highly Cohesive Round Silicone-Filled Breast Implants use a form stable silicone gel that holds its shape while remaining soft in feel for a more natural-appearing overall aesthetic.

Breast Implant Size

Dr. Moses believes that there is no right or wrong size for breast implants. This is a highly personalized, individualized decision based on your priorities for aesthetics, clothing styles, personality, and goals.

Dr. Moses asks each patient to figure out in her own head what size breasts she thinks she should have and then to find pictures of bare breasts that illustrate what size she thinks she ought to have. He will then work with her to pick whatever implant size gets her as close as possible to the look in the pictures. He will try to match the base diameter of the implant to the width of the chest so that the breasts seem neither too wide nor too narrow for each woman’s chest. This way, each woman gets the look that she wants and will hopefully have exactly those breasts that she always thought she should have.

About Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation is done under general anesthesia. It typically takes an hour to an hour and a half, and patients go home the same day. The small incisions are sutured with stitches beneath the skin and with Steri-Strips. There is also a tiny gauze dressing, and patients are fit into a surgical bra.

Most patients are able to go back to non-physical work within two to three days, physical work in one to two weeks, and exercise in three weeks.

Scars are hidden in favorable locations. They will improve rapidly for the first four to six weeks, and then they will fade over several months.

Breast Augmentation Results

Dr. Moses knows how important it is to feel confident in your own appearance and femininity. Breast implants can help create a more shapely feminine silhouette, or they can be dramatic and compelling. Breast implants often enable women to wear clothes that they never could previously and to regain confidence in their figures and in their sensuality.
