What happens during a breast augmentation consultation?
Dr. Moses will talk to you about what you want, examine you, and discuss with you your options for breast surgery. Some women have breasts that are excessively droopy and need lifts; some women have breasts that are too small and need breast implants; and some women need both. If you need both, it can be done as a single stage procedure under the same anesthetic as an out patient. Dr. Moses will explain to you the options available to you, as well as the pros and cons of each option. He will work with you to figure out the individualized plan that works best for you.
Dr. Moses does breast augmentations with smooth silicone gel implants and occasionally with smooth saline implants. He will explain to you the relative advantages and disadvantages of each, allowing you to make the right decision for yourself.
Dr. Moses places breast implants behind the pectoralis muscle. He will give you an option of the periareolar incision (at the top edge of the areola), the inframammary incision (in the fold beneath the breast), or the endoscopic transaxillary approach (through a small incision in the armpit). The implants can also be placed through the breast lift incisions if a lift is necessary.

Dr. Moses likes to offer his breast augmentation patients whatever implant options are best to get the breast shape and size they want, including the FDA-approved highly cohesive gel silicone implants by Sientra and Allergan, popularly known as “gummy bear” implants.

What breast implant size is right for me?
Dr. Moses believes that there is no right or wrong size for breast implants. This is a highly personalized, individualized decision based on your priorities for aesthetics, clothing styles, personality, and goals.
Dr. Moses asks each patient to figure out in her own head what size breasts she thinks she should have and then to find pictures of bare breasts that illustrate what size she thinks she ought to have. He will then work with her to pick whatever implant size gets her as close as possible to the look in the pictures. He will try to match the base diameter of the implant to the width of your chest so that the breasts seem neither too wide nor too narrow for your chest. This way, each woman gets the look that she wants and will hopefully have exactly those breasts that she always thought she should have.
What is breast augmentation surgery like?
Breast augmentation is done under general anesthesia. It typically takes an hour to an hour and a half, and patients go home the same day. The small incisions are sutured with stitches beneath the skin and covered with surgical glue. There is no need for any additional dressing, and patients go home in a surgical bra.
Most patients are able to go back to non-physical work within two to three days, physical work in one to two weeks, and exercise in three weeks.
The scars are hidden in favorable locations, either in the fold under the breast or at the edge of the areola. They will improve rapidly for the first four to six weeks and will fade over several months.

Dr. Moses knows how important it is to feel confident in your own appearance and femininity. Breast implants often enable women to wear clothes that they never could or would previously and to regain confidence in their bodies and in their sensuality.
